2014

Happy New Year!!!

A quick update as we start 2014. Hayle is looking good with the work on SOUTH QUAY well under way and planned to be complete before the end of the year. The ground works to establish the new levels are the first phase. I am always surprised just how used we have become to the new North Quay with its improvements now very much part of the landscape. I know lots of people walk the quay and am working with the Harbour Company to try to get some rubbish bins to keep he area clean and tidy.

The new MARINE RENEWABLES BUSINESS PARK will start soon on the old Power Station site. This will be the first phase of business units and workshops for businesses allied to the wave hub. The Hub itself is also attracting more users and again this is an area of progress. It has been slow but it is happening!

On the MEMORIAL WALK the repairs of the land slip on the slope to Clifton Terrace will resume soon. There has been a problem with the contractor but new agreements have been set up and be assured it will happen. I have shared my belief that this piece of work should not have taken more than a year - there really is no excuse.

Good news that HAYLE STATION is still on track for improvements to the access from the north side. The intention is to prevent the need for passengers to cross the track by making a proper access from the old railway cutting and the back land behind Penpol Terrace. This could happen in the next few months.

Many people ask me what is happening about LOGGANS MILL. Well actually lots - but very very slowly! I have continued to campaign, push, argue and cajole for over four years to move this forward. We do now have a detailed study of possible options for new uses, we have a partnership with he Cornwall Buildings Preservation trust who will be able to access grants that the Council cannot BUT there is no simple or cost efficient option. However we will persist!

Finally the IMPROVED ACCESS TO HAYLE BEACH is under construction!! Again a four year battle but thanks to Cornwall Council and particularly Hayle Town Council the ramp to the beach is under construction!! Opening for Easter 2014 it will provide better access for the disabled, infirm, elderly and those with buggies and push chairs. Its a £60,000 scheme and seeing the effect of the recent storms on the dunes this permanently structure is more essential than ever.
